These days, the fast-paced changes in today’s workplace make it impossible for people to stay unchanged with an occupation or work conditions until retirement. This trend is caused by several factors, and there are some preparations that people should make to adapt to such radical challenges.

The constant changes in the world of work can be attributed to two main factors. First, although automation and artificial intelligence have exponentially boosted productivity, millions of people around the world have lost their jobs, especially repetitive and mundane ones. Second, in an aim to cut expenses and maximize profits, many jobs are being outsourced to countries where wages are significantly lower. In India and the Philippines, for example, an array of call centers has been established where the locals are paid relatively low salaries to outsource tech help support and customer service of many American companies.
However, there are several ways that people can prepare for such profound changes. First, students at educational institutions should be provided with career orientation and counselling services before choosing a career of change, which can be of tremendous help to get prepared for their future occupations. For example, the traditional taxi industry will soon be transformed by Internet-based service and autonomous vehicles, so working as a typical taxi driver should not be considered a lifetime job. Furthermore, people should keep up with the latest developments in their chosen fields and attend specific courses designed to upgrade essential knowledge and skills.
