It is often debated whether childhood or teenage experiences have the greatest implication on the future of a child. In my opinion, what a person experiences as a child and a teenager exert equal impacts on his or her later development.

On the one hand, preschooling is a golden period in shaping one’s abilities and personalities. First, infants develop their very first linguistic skills by responding to their parent’s and other relatives’ speech and emotional expressions, which lays a solid foundation for their vocabulary and pronunciation by the time they reach two or three years of age. Thanks to those precious lessons at home, they are capable of holding conversations, articulating thoughts and developing imagination even before starting school. Apart from language, many children learn to live in harmony with their siblings and obey the rules set by parents, which teaches them how to react promptly to their peers and teachers when they enter schools.
On the other hand, I believe that experiences in teenage years are also instrumental in a person’s future. First, since children go to school, they are just a part of a wider community, where their thoughts and behaviors are much likely to be affected by their fellows. At this stage, they should learn to make friends with their peers, learn how to resolve conflicts, and obey preset rules and guidelines. In other words, they learn to behave themselves and live up to the expectations of others. Furthermore, at school, they are equipped with advanced knowledge and practical skills, which paves the way for their later career.
