In 1984, approximately 18% of those aged 15 to 24 went to the cinema once a month, being the highest cinema attendance of all age brackets. It is followed by the 7-14 age group and 25-35 age group with their figures at 10% and 4% respectively. Meanwhile, almost no one aged 35 or over went to the cinema. Over the following 16 years, the rate of attendance of all age brackets went up gradually.
By 2000, there was a threefold increase in the proportion of those from 15 to 24 years old, reaching its peak of roughly 60%, which doubled the figures of 7-to-14-year-olds and 25-to-35-year-olds. In contrast, the cinema attracted about 15% of cinema goers who were aged 35 or plus at the end of the period.
