As for women under 30 years of age, in 1966, the highest percentage of first-time mother was recorded for those aged 19 to 24, at 60%, compared to only one third of the youngest age group. Those figures then experienced a downward trend to only well under 30% and 11% at the end of the period. In contrast, after reaching a peak at a half in 1986, the proportion of females having their first baby in their late 20s fell back to the 1966’s level, at 37%, in 2006.
Turning to three remaining age groups, there was a fourfold increase to roughly 44% in the percentage of 30-to-34-year-olds. Similarly, the data of women aged 34-39 experienced rapid growth to 30% in 2006. The figure for the most senior age group experienced stability over the period surveyed.
