Từ vựng chủ đề Family – Types of Families (Phân loại gia đình)
- Immediate/ Nuclear family: a family consisting of two parents and their children, but not including aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. (gia đình hạt nhân, bao gồm bố mẹ và con cái)
- Extended family: a family unit that includes grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, and uncles, etc. in addition to parents and children (gia đình lớn, bao gồm cả họ hàng)
- Blended family: a family that consists of two adults, the child or children that they have had together, and one or more children that they have had with previous partners (gia đình hỗn hợp, bao gồm con riêng của bố dượng/ mẹ kế, etc)
Từ vựng chủ đề Family – Marriage & Divorce ( Hôn nhân & Li dị)
- Cohabitation: the act of living and having a sexual relationship with someone, especially someone you are not married to (việc sống thử)
- To shack up (Informal): to start living in the same house as sexual partners, without being married (sống thử)
- Single/ lone parent: someone who has a child or children but no husband, wife, or partner who lives with them (Cha mẹ đơn thân)
- Same-sex marriage: a marriage between two people of the same sex (hôn nhân đồng giới)
- To defer the age of first marriage: to get married late (lập gia đình trễ)
- Dissolution = divorce (ly dị)

- Family bond(s)/ ties: a close connection joining two or more people (mối quan hệ gia đình)
- To strengthen/ tighten family bond(s)/ ties: to improve the connection joining two or more people (thắt chặt mối quan hệ gia đình)
- To live under the same roof: to live in the same house (sống cùng một mái nhà)
- Be close-knit (a close-knit family): If a group of people are close-knit, they all help and support each other (khăng khít)

- Be childless: without children (không có con cái)
- A contraceptive: any of various devices or drugs intended to prevent pregnancy (biện pháp tránh thai)
- Be fertile (of people or animals): be able to produce young (Noun: Fertility) (có khả năng sinh sản)
- Be infertile: unable to produce young (Noun: Infertility) (vô sinh, không có khả năng sinh sản)
- Fertility rate (tỷ lệ sinh sản), A decline in fertility rate (sự suy giảm tỉ lệ sinh sản)
- To give birth to a child: to produce a baby (sinh con)
- Offspring = Children
- A sibling: a brother or sister (anh/ chị em ruột)
- Foster parents: people who officially take a child into their family for a period of time, without becoming the child’s legal parents. The child is referred to as their foster child. (Foster parents: bố mẹ nuôi, Foster child: con nuôi)
- Child well-being: the state of children feeling healthy and happy (sự hạnh phúc của trẻ thơ)
- Posterity (Formal) = A future generation = A descendant (con cháu, thế hệ tương lai)
- To pass down sth = to pass sth from smb to smb/ generation to generation (truyền từ thế hệ này sang thế hệ khác)

Infancy (Thời kỳ sơ sinh) An infant (0-1 year) : trẻ sơ sinh từ 0 đến 1 tuổi.
- To flip: you turn it over quickly one or more times, and if something flips, it turns over quickly (lật, lẫy)
- To crawl: to move along on hands and knees or with your body stretched out along a surface (bò)
- To coo: to speak in a soft, gentle, or loving way (nói bi bô)
- To gurgle: to make a happy sound with the back of the throat (nước bọt sằng sặc)
- To spit up: to bring food up from the stomach out of the mouth, or cough something up out of the mouth (nôn, trớ)
Todderhood (Thời kỳ thơ ấu) A toddler (1-4 years) : Trẻ tập đi từ 1 đến 4 tuổi

- To sob: to cry noisily, taking in deep breaths (khóc nức nở)
- To pick one’s nose: stick your finger in your nose (ngoáy mũi)
- To sniffle: to breathe in quickly and repeatedly through the nose, usually because you are crying or because you have a cold (sụt sịt)
- To throw a tantrum: experience and show a strong feeling of anger, especially suddenly (ngúng nguẩy, làm nũng)

- To set an example: to behave in a way that other people should copy (làm hình mẫu để người khác học hỏi)
- To put pressure on smb: to put someone or something in a difficult situation, or to try and persuade or force someone to do something (đặt áp lực lên ai)

- The apple of smb’s eyes: the person who someone loves most and is very proud of (con cưng/ cục cưng của ai)
- Two peas in a pod: be very similar, especially in appearance (giống nhau như 2 giọt nước)
- A chip off the old block: someone who is very similar in character to their father or mother (giống như đổ khuôn)
- Spitting image of smb: to look extremely similar to someone (giống như tạc)
- The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: a child usually has a similar character or similar qualities to his or her parents (con nhà tông, không giống lông, cũng giống cánh)
- The black sheep (of the family): a person who has done something bad that brings embarrassment or shame to his or her family (ai đó là nỗi xấu hổ của gia đình)
- Skeleton of the house: an embarrassing secret of a family (vết nhơ/ điều xấu hổ của một gia đình)
